I haven’t had it for a long time and can’t attest to the durability, but it seems like a solid enough build. The cord isn’t long enough to do floors in more than one room without moving the plug and the steam loses pressure and needs a few seconds to recharge after about ten seconds or continuous use, but this isn’t a problem in most applications as bursts are typically as effective. If I were buying specifically and primarily for steaming floors, I’d go with a mop-like model instead… but I’ve used this to clean my car interior, tub and tile, oven, sink, and granite counter; so this is as effective and high quality as I’d by for non-commercial use.
I was also able to remove cooked on food from my glass top stove that no other cleaners could do.
The window squeegee part works ok but the steam still left spots but oh well it’s was sanitized and I just wiped dry with a towel.
The ONLY complaint is the handle grip part. I was doing so much two days straight, I was getting blisters at the bottom of my thumbs/ inside palms. I will need to find something to wrap around those hard groves to pad the top of the handle but otherwise it’s been amazing.
I also did my couch and loveseat with the cloth cover and was grossed out by the cover afterwards. These couches are only 2 years ago but never deep cleaned before and I have two grimy handed boys so I figured it would be gross.
I will add I had a handheld steamer and it worked ok but definitely did not get as hot as this machine, I could touch the steam and not get burnt. This machine steam is HOT!!!! So I know it’s sanitizing too!
The handheld was also heavy to hold after a short time and the tank so small I would only get a toilet cleaned and have to stop and wait to cool down before I could refill. So it would take weeks to do my whole house and definitely not worth the money.
This machine last 40+ min before having to add more water. I got the bigger package with more attachments and would say it’s worth it if you want a clean sanitized house.
I had 8 rooms of wallpaper in my new house. They are almost all done thanks to this little beast. Even used it to scrape the mastic off the hardwood kitchen floor that was covered in 5 layers of vinyl. Easily has covered 1500 sqft of wall and floor combined. (Like 50 4x8 sheets of drywall).
Could the plastic be improved, yes. Does the hose kink, yes. Would a second smaller wall paper steamer attachment be useful, yes and yes and yes please make one for the space above door jambs.
With that being said, this is pretty durable if not abused and above all use distilled water. I bought the 5 gallon jugs from the grocery store and have easily gone back 10 times to refill them. Pretty reasonably priced at that rate and far better than getting a mineral clog in the line from using tap water.
In the future, I look forward to steam cleaning my engine
It does take some time for the water to heat up. I ended up using that time to vacuum out my car. By the time I was finished I was ready to use the steam cleaner. It took about 15 20 minutes to heat up. One full tank ALMOST did the job. I ended up having to refill the reservoir once to finish the front of my SUV. The water didn't take as long to heat up the second time around.
If you have extra towels. Use them. I ended up buying a pack of 50 terrycloth towels. I'd say I used 10 to clean the entire inside of my car. Including the upholstery.
All in all I'd say it was worth the money. I can see myself using this to do some deep cleaning inside the house, or detailing the other cars we have. Super handy, easy to use. Cord was more than gracious in length. Attachments were perfect. Especially for the tight nooks, and crannies. The unit itself is extremely light weight, easy to carry. I also love the little storage container on the front. I will most definitely be suggesting this to people looking for something easy to use to for steam cleaning.
The cons I have found...
...the nozzle on the required main attachment where the steam comes out is weak. I use all the different attachments, typically multiple in one cleaning session, and the little brass steam shooting nozzle broke off at the base. I believe they sell this attachment on its own so expect to have to replace this part eventually depending on how much you change out attachment heads. I have not owned mine for even a year yet and it just broke on me.
...when carrying it between projects, it’s very bulky. I wish there was a way to neatly wind up the tube & the steam gun.
...when I tried to use it for hard set soap scum in a shower, it was a lot of physical scrubbing for little effectiveness. I think sometimes you just have to use chemicals to breakthrough dirt and then use the steamer for maintenance.
...and the last con I have found is the lid on the water tank is not fully or easily operational. There have been times when I push down to turn it for opening, it pushes the tank in and makes it even harder to remove. The lid won’t come off without pushing down however. It seems to take multiple attempts and combination of pressure & twisting to get the lid teeth to catch before it comes off or is tightly on.
I will sing praises of how versatile and effective this steamer is all day long. I even have a neighbor who loves to have me clean b/c he knows it’s chemical and odor free! The time it takes me to detail windows inside & out is cut in half compared to doing it with sprays & rags.
This steamer has really impressed with its larger capacity and operating time & power. You will be so happy with how much easier & impressive your cleaning projects become!
Last weekend we finally decided to tackle the horrid wallpaper in our hallway. We scored all the walls, sprayed the fabric softener and went to it. To call it a mess is a tremendous understatement. Took a bit to get it loose and then we had to keep spraying the solution to loosen the paper and glue. Scrape and spray. Over and over and over. The portions we did looked like a war zone. We kept slipping on the glue / fabric softener mess. My husband and I spent about 5 hours and got a bit less than half the hallway done. An hour of that was clean up. This is what I was told was the easiest way. It most definitely was not.
A co-worker mentioned using a steamer and how much easier and cleaner it was. Enter the Wagner 915 Steamer. This made a chore into a breeze. Well it's still pealing wallpaper, but you get the idea. I read the manual, put the water in with the included funnel, turned it on and waited till the red light went off. Placed the wall plate against the wall and held it in place for 20 seconds. Moved it and started getting an edge up. Once I had the edge up it was steam and peal. Spent about an hour, till the Wagner 915 ran out of steam, and got a good sized bit done by myself. There was less destruction the the wall beneath, much less effort, and so much less mess.
I added about 48 oz of water to the unit and waited 20 minutes to begin. The hose is long and easy to maneuver, the wheels make it easy to navigate the main unit. The power cord is short, maybe 3 feet long, so I used an extension cord. I do not have tons of upper body strength and had no issues with an extender holding the steam plate in place. Our home is small, the hallway is actually the shape of the letter "F". The kids couldn't go to the bathroom without being carried by my husband last weekend, now with the baby it's not a problem. I know that may not seem like it would be a big issue but alas it was. I've included pictures, The first is at the beginning of the session. The next image is the corner where we stopped last weekend (look at all the spackle!) and the wall I did tonight. The final image is when I was done- all I had done was throw the paper into a trash bag, no mopping at that point. I am not covered in slime, my home doesn't reek of chemicals, and my family wasn't displaced by the project. Definitely worth the money. I have no used it for cleaning yet, but will update when I do.
